The project “Maker Advent” has made it onto the shortlist for the German Tourism Award 2025! Every year the award honors forward-looking products and projects in German tourism.
In addition to the participatory project of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, 11 other applications have been shortlisted. The winners will be announced on 19 November 2025 at the German Tourism Day in Saarbrücken.
On 10 September the selected projects will go through a public online pitch to convince the jury and online audience of their formats. The jury consists of representatives from the tourism industry.
Interested parties can register for the online pitch and vote for their favorite project at the end of the session. The project with the most votes will go straight to the final. The jury will then decide on the other finalists and winners in a closed session.
During Maker Advent workshops, clubs, artists, creative minds, associations and companies in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region invite people to join them in crafting, woodturning, lace-making, printing, baking, singing, laser cutting and pottery during the pre-Christmas and Christmas season. The hands-on activities inspire people of all ages to get creative and learn a new skill. All activities and providers are listed in a brochure and on a website. In 2024, there were 140 hands-on activities from 40 cities and municipalities. In 2025 the Maker Advent will celebrate its third edition and is an essential element in establishing sustainable creative tourism in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region.
Maker Advent is conceived and implemented by the Chemnitz 2025 main project ‘Makers, Business & Arts’, which is carried out by the Landesverband der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft Sachsen e.V. (Regional Association of Cultural and Creative Industries in Saxony) with funding from Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH (European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025).
