The successful language tandems between Chemnitz University of Technology students and volunteers from Chemnitz 2025 continue:

In the summer semester of 2024, a group of students in the English Studies Master's programme worked with lecturers Isabelle van der Bom and Dr Patrick McCafferty to develop a concept for tandem language learning and put it directly into practice with Capital of Culture volunteers. The participants met regularly over eight weeks at various locations in Chemnitz to improve their language skills and promote intercultural exchange.

Even though the corresponding module for the students is now officially over, the project is still going ahead: on the initiative of Dr Maria Worf, Managing Director of the Centre for Foreign Languages at Chemnitz University of Technology, and Silvia Langhoff from the Deutsch-Britische Gesellschaft Chemnitz e. V. and together with the volunteer coordinators of Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, a first kick-off workshop has now taken place. Around 40 participants, students from Chemnitz University of Technology and volunteers for Chemnitz 2025 met here, where the Tadem learning concept was presented and the first groups were formed. The groups now meet independently, either weekly or every fortnight, depending on their preferences. The project managers have recommended meeting for at least eight weeks, but the duration can be adjusted flexibly depending on the expectations of the participants.
