The European Capital of Culture programme focuses on  participation. The events should therefore be as accessible as possible for as many people as possible. The Begehungen art festival, which opens this Friday, offers many barrier-free events. The area around the colourful chimney at the former Power Station “Heizkrfatwerk Nord” is easily accessible for guests with limited mobility, and there is also mobile seating available. For visually impaired people, tactile models and audio descriptions are available for selected works of art.

The opening of the art festival on Friday 18 July from 19:00 will be translated into sign language. Guided tours with sign language interpretation will take place on 23 and 30 as well as 6 and 13 August at 18:00. You can register for the approx. one-hour exhibition tours at fuehrungen@begehungen-festival.de. On 8 August at 18:00, there will be an opportunity to explore the festival together in small groups and talk about it: "Interaction, Neighbourhood and Energy Talk".

Chemnitz performance artist Gabi Reinhardt invites you on a theatrical bus ride as part of the Capital of Culture programme. 30 women from Chemnitz take the audience on a journey on the subject of work. "The bus has left" is the name of the play. The premiere is on Wednesday, 3 September at 18:00. In order to make the performance accessible to audiences with visual or hearing impairments, individual performances will be offered with an audio description or translation into sign language. Performances with audio description will take place on 4 and 6 September at 18:00 and on 7 September at 13:00. Sign language interpreters will be on board on 5 September at 18:00 and 7 September at 17:00. The performances on 5 and 6 September at 19:00 will be translated into English. One wheelchair space, which can be booked in advance, is available on the bus.

At the "Imagine Festival", the 2nd International Festival for Narrative Art, there will be two family performances with sign language interpretation on 28 August.

The information on accessibility can be filtered in the event calendar on the website chemnitz2025.de.
