In the volunteer editorial team, Volunteers for Chemnitz 2025 publish reports on their experiences, assignments and adventures around the European Capital of Culture.

Sophie is 31 years old, works full-time in the justice system and lives in the Chemnitz area. She has been working for the Capital of Culture since May 2024 and has already gained a lot of experience in various areas since then. As a guiding volunteer for Chemnitz2025, she is therefore present at numerous events.

From 7 to 9 May, a different kind of concert series took place on the Neumarkt in Chemnitz city centre. With "Europe Sounds - Music connects Europe in Chemnitz", the cultural programme of the Europe Week was further enriched.

The stage programme on Neumarkt offered a varied mix of traditional and modern dance, choirs and bands. It served as an opportunity to experience the musical diversity of Europe and familiarise oneself with European traditions.

International artists performed in cooperation with Chemnitz's twin cities, European Capitals of Culture and embassies.

I supported the event backstage on 7 May so that all the artists could start their performance on time. It was a completely new experience to experience such a big event behind the scenes! There were also one or two chats with the artists. It was another opportunity to exchange ideas in a different way. I had a lot of fun and at the same time I was able to learn something from the technical side.

Artists from Kosovo, Chemnitz, Andalusia (Spain), Occitania (France) and Timișoara (Romania) performed on the day. The event was hosted by Chemnitz radio presenter Conny Hartmann. I also enjoyed chatting with her during our breaks.
