Volunteers for Chemnitz 2025 publish reports on their experiences, assignments and adventures around the European Capital of Culture.

Sophie is 31 years old, works full-time in the justice system and lives in the Chemnitz area. She has been working for the European Capital of Culture since May 2024 and has already gained a lot of experience in various areas. As a guiding volunteer for Chemnitz2025, she is therefore present at numerous events.

On 16 April 2025, it was all about sewing, sewing and more sewing in Chemnitz.

The Capital of Culture's oldest volunteer, Annelore Krauß, has launched the "A Heart for Chemnitz Citizens" project. This is primarily intended to benefit people who are unable to actively experience the Capital of Culture year 2025. Small, colourful heart-shaped cushions are therefore being sewn and will be given away during the year.

In order to realise the project, many hard-working hands are needed to sew the fabric into heart shapes, then fill them with wadding and finally sew a final closing seam. The project is being realised in cooperation with the Volkssolidarität Chemnitz, the experienced women of the sewing circle at the Montessori School and the volunteer project of the Capital of Culture, and therefore us volunteers.

That's why I couldn't resist the opportunity to support this project on 16 April. It was definitely a lot of fun doing something good together. We talked and laughed a lot across the generations and created a fine piece of the Capital of Culture. The two hours flew by.
