If you want to explore the city off the beaten track, you can take part in 39xChemnitz: A self-exploration tour through one of Chemnitz's 39 neighbourhoods. With a travel journal under their arm, travellers are equipped with questions and food for thought: Everyday things are seen from new perspectives, exploration is left a little to chance and the urban space is explored on the traveller's own initiative. The collected impressions are used to create alternative travel guides for Chemnitz's neighbourhoods - subjective, personal and authentic.
Anyone who wants to contribute their impressions can pick up a 39xChemnitz toolkit free of charge at the Hartmannfabrik, the Chemnitz 2025 visitor centre. This is a toolkit that guides you through one of the 39 city districts. The idea is to be guided by chance, to roam the city with open eyes, curious and without a plan. Whether alone or together, the main thing is to go it alone.
The experiences gathered in this way will ultimately be summarised in a travel guide. Participants should send their observations, photos and texts by email to info@stadtkarte-chemnetz.de by 15 August 2025.
39xChemnitz is a project organised by ChemNetz. ChemNetz has already published a city map of self-made urban culture and is dedicated to alternative perspectives on the city, showing local subculture and socioculture, undiscovered art and cultural offerings, etc. The travel guide will be published there in analogue and digital form.
