115.000 people celebrated KOSMOS 2025 in Chemnitz on the weekend of 13 to 15 June - more than ever before. This made the cultural festival the biggest event in the Capital of Culture year since its grand opening in January 2025. Over three days, Chemnitz city centre filled up with over 300 programme items on more than 70 stages. The atmosphere was euphoric and rousing, because Chemnitz was sunny, colourful and cosmopolitan.

Many guests had travelled to celebrate together with the people of Chemnitz. On Friday evening, the Chemnitz band Blond kicked off the festival weekend together with the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra on the theatre square. A wide range of musical acts provided the sound for the weekend: Artists such as Juli, Nura and Deine Freunde played, and there were stages for club music, indie pop, hip hop, techno, punk, experimental music, jazz and salsa, among others.

KOSMOS Chemnitz is more than just a music festival: social dialogue, participation and democratic involvement are just as important. Visitors were able to embroider, dance, screen print, build, design, learn and try out new things in hands-on activities. The programme was complemented by art installations, sporting competitions and discussion formats on topics such as future prospects, volunteering, social media and mental health.

The city's society presented itself in all its diversity, with civil society initiatives, committed associations and cultural players. They all helped shape KOSMOS Chemnitz with their own formats and used the festival as a platform for cultural and democratic exchange. Over 2,500 people were involved in the realisation of KOSMOS, many of them volunteers.
