#3000Garages – THE EXHIBITION
The garage phenomenon at a glance

This organically growing and changing exhibition makes the Garage Campus the hub of the #3000Garages project. The essence of garages - the cultural value of these inconspicuous little buildings - is presented in condensed and transformed form: in the form of artistic works, recordings, documents and artefacts. Photographic portraits of Chemnitz residents, curiosities, designs, installations and objects, tuned and imaginary vehicles, texts, video and sound recordings come together here.
From the socio-cultural participation work in Chemnitz garage courtyards, ideas were developed and tested together with associations, communities and individuals, such as the garage concerts that have been taking place since September 2023. The joint activities and research in the garage courtyards have now resulted in works of art.

It will grow, change and thus illuminate the socio-cultural phenomenon of the "East Garage" from different perspectives. The exhibition starts with works, fragments, documentation and loans from: Andi Gläser, Béla Kupfer, Cosima Terrasse, Johannes Richter, Ernesto Uhlmann, Henry K. Wein, Kati Hyyppä, Klaus Pobitzer, Luise Müller, Maria Sturm, Martin Maleschka, Peter Rossner, Rainer Prohaska, Sabine Hochmuth, Tanja Krone, Thomas Pasdzior, Uwe Wetzel, Valentin Kühn
Maria Sturm, General Meeting, 2024
Fotografie Edition, Digitaldruck, unterschiedliche Maße
[9 May - 30 November 2025]
For Mitgliederversammlung, photographer Maria Sturm visited dozens of garage courtyards and took portraits of 164 garage users. Behind each of her analogue photographs is an encounter, a conversation, sometimes even a friendly relationship.

Works, found objects, installations
Garages are veritable smorgasbords, and this exhibition is no exception. If you look closely, you will find fragments and traces of future exhibits. a reading room invites visitors to immerse themselves in specialised literature on the garage as a cultural asset. Objects, installations and artefacts provide an insight into the artistic exploration of the subject.

Klaus Pobitzer, "Interior Landscapes"
Zeichnung/Digitaldruck, ab 28. Juni Installation vor Ort
A large-format digital drawing is representative of a video installation consisting of numerous reworked photographs of open garages. These photographs were sent to the artist Klaus Pobitzer by Chemnitzer:innen. The installation Innenlandschaften can be seen in the Ahornstraße garage from 24 May to 16 June 2025 and will be transferred to the exhibition on 28 June 2025.

BURG x #3000Garages
Funnels, index cards, messages hidden in print, rocking chairs and counters made from discarded garage doors. In 2024, students from Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle designed objects for the #3000Garage trail that convey the local stories of Chemnitz's garage yards. Two selected designs were realised at ten stations on the trail. Counters and rocking chairs, which were created as part of the research project, serve as functional parts of the exhibition architecture, while funnels and index cards are displayed as exhibits and create a link to the garage trail in the public space.

Rainer Prohaska / Futurama Lab, "The cars we like"
28. Juni bis 29. November
The cars we like is a humorous exploration of the future of the car. In Chemnitz, mobile sculptures with a do-it-yourself aesthetic are created live in front of the audience.
