Historical buildings, writings, and songs are cultural assets, just like traditional fruit varieties. Variety diversity and variety collections are the focus of this year's International Pomologists' Meeting in Chemnitz, European Capital of Culture 2025. Contributions to the conference from Czechia, Romania, Hungary, and Germany will focus on promoting orchard meadows, preserving biodiversity, and raising awareness of traditional fruit varieties. With the support of the Federal Plant Variety Office, based in Saxony, varieties that are able to cope with climate-related changes in our region will be presented.

The accompanying public exhibition “#Sachsens_ObstKultur_entdecken” (Discover Saxony's Fruit Culture) gives interested members of the public the opportunity to slip into the role of a pomologist. In addition, guests can express their wishes for a sustainable city in a family-friendly workshop.

At the final planting festival of Gelebte Nachbarschaft, hundreds of apple trees will be planted together in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture Region from 19 to 26 October 2025.

Get to work, grab a spade and plant the future!
