The work stems from Sára Märc's many years of artistic research into more-than-human perspectives in the history of coal mining. The focus lies on the long-ignored practice of using horses as labourers in the mines - animals that lived deep underground to bring the "black gold" of the industrial age to light. These animals not only carried coal, but also the burden of the industrial transformation processes that gave rise to modernity. The performance reimagines Europe's extractive past as an interwoven, interspecific narrative of co-existence and the disciplining of bodies and labour.
