For one evening, the ballroom of the Augustusburg Fief Court will be transformed into a space beyond the boundaries of classical perception: Kulturwerk Schneeberg is presenting its project on four-dimensional Gaussian splatting with computer science students from the University of Applied Sciences Zwickau. On Wednesday, visitors will experience how modern virtual reality utilises and combines mathematical concepts, barrier-free innovations and old traditions.

The evening is aimed at anyone who is interested in not only looking at virtual four-dimensionality, but also trying it out. The students will provide insights into the development of the project, explain the basics of photogrammetric scanning in 3 and 4 dimensions and show how historical concepts of the method's namesake can create multidimensional spaces and help to preserve history today.

The project was developed as part of a course at Zwickau University of Applied Sciences and is supported by Kulturwerk Schneeberg in terms of curation and content. The presentation in the Lehngericht shows how university teaching, innovative regional cultural work and creative technologies enter into dialogue with each other.

The event evening offers space to try things out, ask questions and be amazed. It combines didactic elements with low-threshold access and makes it clear that VR is a tool that can be used to rethink historical, social and scientific content in equal measure.

Makerhubs

Nine Makerhubs in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture Region will become places where people can learn from each other and create something new together. They are also places where designers, craftspeople, entrepreneurs, the next generation of skilled workers and makers from all over the world come together. Visitors and creative tourists can experience regional culture and traditions at workshops. The Makerhubs are part of the Makers, Business & Arts programme. This main project of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 is all about promoting creative tourism offerings and cross-sector collaboration between industry and creative professionals. The project is being implemented by the Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH in cooperation with the Landesverband der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft Sachsen e. V.
