SUMMARY:Insights into the Theater der Welt Festival - monthly talk series
DESCRIPTION:Four international theater artists will be guests at a digital
discussion at the Hartmannfabrik. They will offer insights into the produ
ctions they will be presenting this summer at the THEATER DER WELT festiva
l in Chemnitz.\nRolf Aberhalden is one of the founders of the Colombian co
mpany Mapa Teatros. On July 4 and 5\, the world-renowned group from Bogotá
will perform the play Vortex Nukak at the Theater der Welt festival. This
production was created in collaboration with members of the Nukak\, one o
f Colombia’s last nomadic communities\, some of whom will be present liv
e on stage. In the series “Insights into the Theater der Welt Festival\,
” he discusses the creative process behind the play with festival direct
or Stefan Schmidtke. The play\, designed as a walk-through installation\,
brings the Amazon to life on the backstage area of the opera house.\nThe p
lay by Russian author and director Evgeny Goman also explores the lived re
ality of an indigenous population—though in a different part of the worl
d\, in Northern Europe between Norway\, Sweden\, Finland\, and Russia. The
re\, the Sami people live scattered across various nation-states. Contact
with the Sami on the Russian side has almost completely ceased following R
ussia’s invasion of Ukraine. In Chemnitz\, Evgeny Goman\, who lives in K
irkenes\, Norway\, presents a staged reading of his documentary theater pi
ece TIRRV.DIVIDED\,which is based on conversations with Russian Sami. Next
Tuesday\, Goman will speak about\, among other things\, the current situa
tion of his ensemble.  \nA table is the sole and central set piece in the
Indian play Mezok . On the large stage at the Spinnbau\, this table serve
 s as a workplace\, a government office\, and a border all in one. Around t
his versatile piece of furniture unfolds a contemporary drama exploring th
e world of work in the world’s most populous country. It was written and
directed by the Indian author and director Jyoti Dogra\, who will also be
present as a discussion partner. The table\, which will be used in the pe
rformances on June 30 and July 1 in Chemnitz\, is being replicated in loca
l workshops.\nThere is no traditional stage for the play BLUR . Equipped w
ith virtual reality headsets\, the audience immerses itself in an artifici
al world. BLUR is an exciting blend of technology and performance that con
fronts participants with deeply emotional questions. This work was created
as a Taiwanese-Canadian-Greek co-production. Myriam Achard from the inter
nationally diverse artist collective Riverbed Theatre in Canada will speak
with Stefan Schmidtke about the group’s work at the intersection of sci
ence\, technology\, and art. \nMore information about the festival can be
  found here.
