Haltestelle Kultur - Project opening

What could a cultural institution look like that is truly democratically organised? One in which citizens contribute their wishes and visions and actively shape the future of the place? With “Haltestelle Kultur”, the Curatorial Collective for Public Art invites you to explore these questions - and become active yourself.

The Garage Campus, which is being created as a new cultural centre in Chemnitz during the Capital of Culture year, wants to be a place for everyone. "Haltestelle Kultur" examines who these "all" are, collects perspectives from urban society and - in the spirit of C the Unseen - makes the invisible processes behind the new cultural institution visible.

Programme

  • from 15:00 Arrival with coffee & cake
  • 16:00 hrs Film screening
Since 2021, the Garage Campus process has been accompanied by a diverse steering committee - supported by Straßenbahnfreunde, who have been part of the project from the very beginning. in 2024, the Berlin-based artist group CCPA conducted extensive interviews with the members of the steering committee and captured the "status quo" of the emerging cultural venue at the time. The resulting short film shows personal perspectives, challenges and hopes surrounding the Garage Campus. We want to watch it together - and then turn our attention to the questions that concern us today, in 2025.
  • from approx. 16:30/17:00 Exchange & practical co-design
The Garagen-Campus e.V. was officially founded in September 2025 - and with it begins an important phase in which many fundamental questions remain unanswered. What does this new cultural centre need? What wishes and visions are there? What topics should be focussed on now? The “Haltestelle Kultur” project will not only create space for dialogue, but will also get everyone directly involved: we will work together to build, design and fill the stops, which will serve as places for feedback and exchange in the future.
  • until approx. 20:00/21:00 Open end
