To mark the festive finale of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, the PURPLE PATH project team invites you to take an exclusive tour along the art and sculpture trail. With the works of around 60 international and regional artists, a unique exhibition of contemporary art in public spaces is being created between Chemnitz and the 38 municipalities of the Capital of Culture region.

Behind the foil of the installed artworks, an unknown history of the region is formulated, a narrative of mining and industry, exploitation and profit, marginalisation and solidarity, as well as a history of precarity and innovation that continues to this day. The artworks can be found on industrial wasteland, at railway stations, on riverbanks or in the still waters of a millrace. They correspond with farm and textile museums, connect with castles and old churches, their organs and their art. Sometimes they also take place in illustrious nooks and crannies of UNESCO-protected old towns, which become context providers and polyphonic narrators of the history mentioned.

The project team cordially invites you to celebrate the finale of the Capital of Culture with a trip together. During the journey, you will gain in-depth insights into the backgrounds and contexts of selected works. The bus tour will take you from station to station, starting and finishing in Chemnitz. Please allow sufficient time and catering.

Total duration of the tour: 6 hours (10 am - 4 pm)

Start: Brückenstraße 4, 09111 Chemnitz (The tour starts at the artwork Seeds & Seats by Gabriela Oberkofler and Jacob Strobel opposite the smac)
Finish: Schillerplatz, 09111 Chemnitz
