200 years of the railway in Europe

On 20 September 2025, Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen and its partners will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the railway in Europe. Embark on a journey through the history of rail transport at various locations in the Capital of Culture region

On 27 September 1825, the first railway on European soil set off from England. The Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen is celebrating the bicentenary of this important milestone in the history of transport together with partners and associations on 20 September 2025. Visitors can embark on a special journey to the beginnings of rail transport and at the same time experience the modern railway in a unique way. Special trains and buses will be travelling from one event location in the network area to the next.
